Carlotta's Web

There is a little spider on the windowsill next to my toilet who has constructed a little web, under which he sits and waits patiently for his prey. He is about 4mm across and his web is about 1 cm. The idea that he is going to catch anything is just so ludicrous, but he looks tremendously dedicated to his task. He reminds me of Goblin so although I normally hate spiders, my heart has gone out to this one and I have yet to scoop him up in toilet paper and flush him. He is probably a miniature tarantula or a dreaded whooping spider that will come and kill me in the night or sting me while I am pooping. I have named him Carlotta.

Why not try to scoop him up with something (or get him to crawl onto a sheet of paper) and dump him outside in a shrub or some other suitable location, so he can do his job? If he kills a mosquito with West Nile, he might end up saving your life! :-)

Jess: Carlotta and I have an uneasy detente. I would much rather know where he is at all times. He did disappear this morning, which leaves me rattled.

He probably had things to do! Maybe a run to the store, then a stop to get his hair done. He'll be back eventually!

At least you don't have our fun spiders outside the house. We have them around every year, and this year two rather large ones have taken up residence right near the front door. One, so far, has been spinning rather impressive webs to one side of the stoop. I can live with that. The other, on more than one occasion, has spun a large web right across the front steps. That's just not good! In fact, the thought of walking right into it, spider and all, is quite disturbing!

At least they aren't watching you poop.

Touché!
